Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
When will we be meeting for worship in person?
That is a great question, to which we do not have an answer to at this time. Our Bishops (both synod and national) are recommending that we do not consider gathering in person through the month of June until we have proper procedures together. At our May council meeting, we agreed to form a task force to first survey our congregation, and then enact policies and procedures to ensure that all will be safe when we gather for worship in person. One church leadership guru even suggested we probably won’t be comfortable for mass worship until we are comfortable going to crowded sporting events. Who knows?
Until then, we will continue to be the church online in additional forms. Our Youth will continue to gather for either the Sunday School hour or for a Tuesday night group. We will have a forum/discussion to discuss our Faith Practices on Wednesdays at noon or 6:30 p.m. beginning on June 10th. Check out the info box to your right for more details.
Check out our church calendar to find the links to all these groups.
May God continue to bless us with peace and patience in the days to come.
With Christ’s love,
Pastor Laura Altman began serving our congregation in April, 2011. She grew up in Northwest Indiana where her siblings still reside. After high school, she received an undergraduate degree from Purdue in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She worked many years in the telecommunications industry in Engineering, Marketing and Training.
After several life changes, she felt the call to ordained ministry. She graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) and was ordained in the summer of 2000. Since her ordination she has served congregations in the Indiana- Kentucky Synod of the ELCA.
Pastor Laura is married to Don Altman who works with Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores. Their son Stephen DeWitte, also a graduate of Purdue University works in his Civil Engineering field with the Kentucky Cabinet of Transportation.
Pastor Laura sees her ministry as building bridges between one another and God. She loves to open up scriptures and show how God is in our everyday lives. Join us for online worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM, and ZOOM Faith Practice Forums on Wednesdays at noon and 6:30 PM. We have a very dynamic and mission-focused congregation that reaches out to our community in a variety of ways.
